Staring a new business can be time consuming and difficult but starting from the ground up can be even more demanding. If you have a service or product that is unique then you probably don’t have a business model you can follow that others have created. However, you can choose to emulate a business that is at least a little bit similar so that you can make the right decisions on how to get things up and running efficiently and without a lot of overhead or headache.
While what you are offering may be unique, you can still run your business like other companies that are successful. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be unique and make your company different from the usual cookie cutter companies. However, you do want to have a basic model of how you will do things and even if you are different from the rest, similarities are eminent.
Choose another company that you respect and want to be like and let their way of doing things pave the way to how you want to do business but add in your own way of doing things. Let’s say that a company you know is always closed on Sundays for religious reasons and you find that commendable. You can still be unique with your own business but can choose to do the same thing just like they do. This doesn’t mean you are copying them, it simply means that you respect how they are doing business and want to do something similar with your own business. If you want to let your employees wear jeans and be casual then do it but still run a professional company. It can be done and is done every day with other businesses. Just add your own flavor and still maintain your individuality.
