Not only is this a good idea so that you can see where your expenses are going, you’ll want to keep them with good records so that you can use them as tax write offs when it’s time to do your taxes. Without the proper paperwork then you may have a problem if you are audited.

This kind of software can keep everything for you in one place that is easily accessed. Most of this type of software comes at a charge but many will have free trials you can use to try out their service before you purchase it. Plus, if you do pay for software that is used for your business then it is another item that you can take off of your taxes at the start of each tax year. It’s almost like getting it for free or at a discount because you get help with your business and you can take it off as a deduction so you owe less or get a larger refund.

If you do choose to use a hard copy route of keeping up with your expenses then be sure you have back up copies in case something happens to the other copies. It is best to put everything on a disc but if you don’t use that type of system then at least have double copies.
